Happy Monday and happy March, friends!

I’m so stoked it’s March. I am a spring + summer lover for sure…Despite the fact that California barely got a winter (drought, anyone?), I’m excited for longer days and sunny skies!

20140303-122913.jpg

This is the only picture I have from Friday night- a group of friends and I went to check out some Sacramento Beer Week festivities and (as I learned would soon become the norm) the event we wanted to go to was SUPER crowded, so we grabbed a beer at a nearby dive bar instead. My friend Shannon came along and I introduced her to the magical world of Snapchat ๐Ÿ˜‰

20140303-122921.jpg

On Saturday morning, I suited up for an 11.5 mile run. I ran into my friend Liz (who’s also running the Shamrock’n!) on mile 1, and we ran our first 6 miles together. We were so busy gabbing that we ran at a slightly slower pace than I’m used to, so I decided after we separated that I would go for distance instead of speed, and busted out a 12 miler instead of my planned 11.5. It felt good overall, but my legs were definitely feeling it by the end. I will probably not do another 12 miler before the race!

20140303-122928.jpg

That afternoon, my mom cashed in on her Christmas present and we went to a Paint Nite event. It was a really fun time and we enjoyed some yummy beer from Drake’s Brewing Co. while we made our masterpieces. My mom is actually an artist and art teacher, so I knew hers (on the left) would turn out great… I don’t think mine was too shabby either, though!

20140303-122934.jpg

Saturday ended with some selfies, a yummy cocktail courtesy of Miranda, and this weekend’s bad decision: greasy hotdogs at 2am. Totally not Healthy Living Blogger approved…but guess who doesn’t care? #THISGIRL

20140303-122941.jpg

I woke up abnormally early the next morning and indulged in my favorite time of the week… GROCERY SHOPPING! Yep, I am that cool. I went kinda crazy and ended up buying so much that I needed to get a cart. I looked like a hot mess walking the 4 blocks home with 3 bags of groceries, a 12-pack of toilet paper, and a cup of my newest guilty pleasure (a dirty chai).

P.S. I had a BUY ONE GET ONE FREE coupon for Nutella. WHAT THE WHAT?!

20140303-122947.jpg

Beer Week was still going strong and I had plans to get lunch at Burgers and Brew, where they were tapping a keg of the rare Pliny the Younger from Russian River Brewing. The line was CRAZY long and most of us had already tried the beer at some point throughout the years, so we opted to just have lunch and taste some mini samplers of the other cool beers they were featuring!

20140303-122953.jpg

I spent the rest of the afternoon resting up for dodgeball by watching SNL. Then it was off we went! We won 8-2 (and are in the championship game next week!) and I had a great time watching the Oscars afterward at the bar. I may or may not have been belting out Wind Beneath my Wings with Bette Midler…anyone else?

What is your favorite kind of beer?

Favorite Oscar dresses? I loved JLaw, Sandra Bullock, and Amy Adams!

Happy Monday! First of all, thank you all so much for your nice words on my last post. It was really encouraging to hear that other people have gone through the same struggle with seeing gains on the scale, especially while training for half marathons.

On to my weekend!

photo 1

It got off to a pretty amazing start, if I do say so myself: I stopped at Groce Out on the way home and got some wine cheese and crackers (my usual Friday night routine…I’m so predictable) and vegged out all night watching House of Cards Season 2 eps 5-8. So so so good!

photo 2

Saturday morning, I was up and out the door before 9am for my first long run in a couple of weeks (No long run last week since I was in NYC, but Joanna and I did fit in a 6 mile run one day which is better than nothing!)… It ended up being a beautiful 70 degree day! I ran 11 miles again and was SHOCKED that I ended up averaging 9:09/mi, which is my goal for my half marathon pace!

Screen shot 2014-02-22 at 1.28.22 PM

Something happened and I totally just kicked it into gear for my last 4 miles or so. I think that might have been the point where I ditched my shirt! Haha EVERY week I’ve run more than 10 miles, I’ve taken my shirt off. Sista starts to sweat! And 8:28 for the last mile?! WTF?!

photo 3

Since I woke up so early, I actually had time to make it to the Farmer’s Market for the first time in weeks. I splurged and bought myself some daffodils and a chai latte because I was feeling so happy about my run. Treat yo self!

photo 4

After 4 more episodes of House of Cards (that’s 8 total for the weekend now, for those of you keeping track) I headed out to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Good times had by all as always!

photo 5The next morning I woke up and went to Davis to hang with Roger, and more importantly his pug Pierre, my favorite little gremlin ๐Ÿ™‚ Look at those ugly teeth! It was another beautiful day and a perfect one for a nice long walk with the pups!

Diptic

After one last episode of House of Cards (the finale! AAHHHH) and a few other various tv shows, I headed over to dodgeball where I actually got a great workout in..and looked real cool wearing my new tube socks ๐Ÿ™‚ We played a bit of water pong at the bar and then I came home to slow down, send my BFF a weekend update email, and mentally prepare for the week.

Another good one in the books!

Do you watch House of Cards? What do you think of Season 2? I liked it a lot more than Season 1!

How was your weather this weekend? We seriously lucked out!

Surprise NYC Weekend in Photos

Greetings from snowy NYC!!

20140217-092511.jpg

Anyone who follows me on Instagram knows (and may have known for a while now) that I flew to New York City this weekend to surprise my best friend Joanna for her birthday. I got the idea back in November when tickets were really cheap, and bit the bullet & made the purchase just a week or 2 after Thanksgiving. This is the reason why there are very unspecific “travel day”s worked into my half marathon training plan…I knew this Saturday I’d be flying across the country!

20140217-093318.jpg

But first, I had to celebrate Valentines Day in Sacramento! Yvette and I met up with a big group of girls for sushi, but got there early and had our own private dinner date ๐Ÿ˜‰ as soon as we finished our food (we were starving!) we joined the rest of the ladies. Unfortunately I didn’t stay long, cause I had a 6am flight to catch!

20140217-092314.jpg

And fly I did! My brother graciously picked me up at 4:30am and took me to the airport. There was snow on the ground when we connected in Chicago which I knew was a bad sign. My flight to NYC ended up delayed about an hour and a half (most of it on the runway).. THEN, the pilot announced we were in a holding pattern circling LaGuardia, and everyone on the plane started purchasing alcohol LOL- myself included. We made it eventually to NYC, where snow was in the air!

20140217-092324.jpg

I hightailed it to Joanna’s friend Arielle’s apartment where I could stash my stuff and get ready for the surprise party. Joanna’s roomie (and our longtime friend from middle/high school) Alex arrived and we had a photoshoot on Arielle’s amazing balcony!

20140217-092333.jpg

Eventually we made it to Swift, a bar in the East Village where Joanna was unassumingly led by her boyfriend. She was already crying before she was led to the corner where I was hiding and I was revealed.. It was an emotional moment when she realized I was there and not on a dodgeball pub crawl in Sacramento wondering which boy I should invite (like I told her I was ๐Ÿ˜‰ )… I even sent her fake workout selfies and claimed I ran 11 miles that morning- HA!

20140217-092341.jpg

After drinks at Swift and dancing at Bowery Electric, I headed back downtown to Alex & Jo’s place, where I frolicked in their snowy rooftop lounge while waiting for Alex to get back and buy a pizza from 7-11. Which I proceeded to eat HALF OF. I was running on 3 hours of sleep and totally needed the fuel! Let’s just say it was glorious.

20140217-092350.jpg

I made up for it by having a healthy banana + coffee + kombucha recovery breakfast before high tailing it back up to midtown to get my stuff from Arielle’s apartment. Like my outfit? I call it “morning after chic” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then we took advantage of Joanna & Alex’s gym and I got in my best non-running workout in months! Made me kinda having a gym…

20140217-092358.jpg

Joanna headed out for her bday dinner with the BF, and Alex and I decided to walk around TriBeCa until we found a good spot to eat. Um, bad idea when it’s 25 degrees outside and feels like 18! After what felt like hours of walking, we started getting desperate and ducked into a cute little place called The Butterfly. I got bratwurst sliders and Brussels sprouts with bacon & apples and Alex got ravioli and it was all SO good! Pleasant little surprise!

20140217-092407.jpg

At dinner, I had the genius idea of staying in and watching the new season of House of Cards. After seeing (and posing with) an ad for it, we knew we had to do it! We stopped at Whole Foods to get a couple of fancy beers then plopped down in front of the tv for what turned into 3.5 hours of Netflix. We watched the first 4 episodes back to back… Soo good!

The weekend is far from over, as today is Joanna’s actual birthday and I’m not leaving until tomorrow. We are hopefully going for a long run this morning followed by birthday brunch, and I cannot wait! So excited to be here and celebrating with her in person! Happy birthday Joanna!!

Have you ever surprised a friend or had a surprise party thrown for you?

Have you been to NYC? How about in the dead of winter?!

Happy week, everyone!

Haha, the President of my firm walked in this morning and said that and it totally threw us off. Not happy Monday, happy week! It has a nice ring to it!

Sorry for the radio silence lately. It is pretty crazy to have a job where I am more or less busy from the moment I arrive till the moment I leave pretty much every day! I have several blog posts planned (like a budget update!), it’s all just a matter of carving out some time to churn them out!

20140203-133246.jpg

On Friday evening, I had a lovely walk home from work at dusk. I love that I regularly get to walk past so many Downtown Sacramento landmarks!

20140203-133255.jpgI went home, nommed on a veggie-packed dinner (I’ve been trying to load most of my calories into breakfast & lunch, so I’ve been having a lot of salad & roasted veggies for dinner), then headed out to our favorite karaoke bar The Distillery for Angelique’s birthday! I sang my go-to, “Piano Man”, and a hilarious rendition of “Bug-a-Boo” with Yvette.

Unfortunately Danielle and I never got to sing Gaga & Beyonce’s “Telephone”, but she made up for it by KILLING it on her own with “Bad Romance”.. she serenaded her boyfriend Noel, which made for some hilarious photos (see above)! I also got guilted into joining my friend Greg on stage for Journey’s “Faithfully”, because I snuck his name in to sing it without him knowing ๐Ÿ˜‰

20140203-133312.jpg

Despite staying out a little later than planned at karaoke (they didn’t call up Yvette and I to sing until almost 1am!), I didn’t have much to drink so I still made it out for my 10 miler the next morning. I ran the same distance as last week, but was exactly one minute slower. Either way, better than not doing it at all, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

20140203-133304.jpg

Next on the itinerary was C.J. and Julie’s baby shower. C.J. is a longtime dodgeball friend and teammate of mine, and we are all so excited for their little ninja to arrive next month! The shower was hosted at the daycare that C.J. and Julie are opening with some friends- he showed us around and it was awesome! It was a great shower all around, complete with dirty diaper guessing games, a nacho bar, and tricycle races ๐Ÿ˜‰

20140203-152528.jpg

That night was my good friend Kristin’s birthday party. It was a pajama pub crawl, so we all got decked out in onesies! I wish I had more pictures besides this one of Yvette and I getting ready- let’s just say we got some interesting looks throughout the evening ๐Ÿ˜‰

20140203-133324.jpg

As you all know, the Super Bowl was yesterday. There was no way I’d be watching anywhere besides at my friend Dave’s house! (Where we had all of our Monday Night Football meals) I printed out a fun predictions questionnaire and there was food GALORE. Lots of different chicken wings, lumpia, steak sliders, cupcakes, variety packs from Popeyes and Taco Bell LOL, and I made sure to bring that spinach salad you see right up there ๐Ÿ˜‰

Obviously the game itself wasn’t great, but there were definitely a few gems in the commercial department! I think Doritos always has great commercials, and of course Budweiser’s Puppy Love commercial made me squeal from the cuteness!

Hope you all have a great week! With any luck you’ll be hearing from me soon ๐Ÿ™‚

What was your favorite Super Bowl commercial?

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Happy MLK Day! And for those who don’t get a holiday today… Happy Monday ๐Ÿ˜›

Does anyone else feel like January is flying by? I keep on looking at the calendar and expecting it to only be like January 8th. Crazy!

Well even though my weekend is technically still chuggin’ along, here’s what I was up to the past few days:

photo 2

I finished up the workweek working on a project in our conference room that had a sweet view during a sweet sunset. The end of week 1 at work called for some wine (because duh, I am me) and an awesome dinner salad. Black beans, corn, avocado, and jalapeno stuffed olives with a cumin vinaigrette… YUM!

That evening I went out to the bars (for the first time in a while!) for a going away party to wish my friend Sara farewell as she moves to Washington DC this week for an awesome job. Sad to see her go, but excited that she got the opportunity! I stuck around for a couple of drinks but made sure to head home by 11 since I had 9 miles planned in the morning.

photo 3

And run I did! I decided I wanted to stick with an increase of at least .5 miles per week. Since we ran 8.7 last week,ย I went 9.3ย this week…just to be sure ๐Ÿ˜‰ I switched it up and instead of doing out-and-backs on the last half of the half marathon course, I pretty much just ran the first 9 miles of the race. I was really impressed with my pace this week, since I’m aiming for a 9:10 min mile pace for my half.

I was definitely feelin it afterward though, and pretty much plopped myself on the floor to ice and stretch through several episodes of The Office ๐Ÿ™‚

photo 1

In a welcome change of pace from the norm, we went to see a Sacred City Derby Girls bout on Saturday night! I had never been to a roller derby before, and Chris had never been to one in Sacramento. It was awesome. Stereotypically enough, I loved the ridiculous outfits, and Chris loved seeing the girls crash and fall. Hahaha, OKAY, I loved that too.

The rest of the evening was quiet for me, since I was still recovering from the long run- perfect conditions for a glass of wine + Netflix night!

photo 4

Sunday also started off quiet, with an early morning cup o’ tea and some calming music on my balcony… But the rest of the day was anything but! As you probably know, the 49ers fell to the Seahawks in their quest for the Super Bowl ๐Ÿ˜ฆ CHOKED is more like it. Gahhh. After watching the game at our friend Danny’s place, Yvette and I booked it over to dodgeball on our bikes, where we kicked butt 8-1!

Since most of us didn’t have work today, we got to stay out and enjoy each other’s company at the bar afterward. Yvette and I sucked at water pong as per usual, and she trolled. Once I switched partners, I redeemed myself by winning 3 games in a row! Success!

Not much going on today…I will probably catch up on this weekend’s SNL and do some food prep for the week. Such an exciting life I lead ๐Ÿ˜€ Have a great week!

Have you ever been to a roller derby?

Who are you rooting for in the Super Bowl?

Weekend in Photos

Hello and happy Monday! Um, how crazy is it that Christmas is just over a week away? Anyone else lightweight freaking out right now? Luckily, I find baking to be stress relieving, because I have a lot of it to do over the next 7 days ๐Ÿ˜‰

photo 1

Now…on to the weekend recap! On Friday afternoon, my brother Andrew picked me up and we headed to our parents house for yet another holiday party. My mom has done a great job this month, hosting Thanksgiving, my dad’s birthday party, and this time was her faculty holiday party. My mom teaches at my high school, so I had a fun time catching up with some of my old teachers ๐Ÿ˜‰

photo 2On Saturday morning, I finally got back to my old routine! I hadn’t been to the Farmer’s Market in a few weeks – once because of the craziness of Thanksgiving, and the other time because I just plain old forgot ๐Ÿ˜‰ I started the day with the 2nd long run of my half marathon training…I was aiming for 5.75 miles, but my course ended up being a little bit longer. No worries! I figure there’s nothing wrong with being a little bit ahead of schedule ๐Ÿ™‚

At the Farmer’s Market, I picked up mustard greens, brussels sprouts, a turnip (which I have NO idea how to cook…roast it?), a butternut squash, and my fave salsa that is already half gone. Oops ๐Ÿ™‚ I wasted no time in cooking it all up in a very typical Katie meal: eggs, salsa, and a boatload of green veggies!

photo 3

On Saturday evening, I was double booked with holiday parties. I started off the evening at my friends CJ and Julie’s party, where I stayed and visited for a bit before heading home and getting ready for party #2: the 1960’s Mad Christmas Party!

Scott did a great job hosting, and everyone looked amazing all dressed to the nines! I was stoked to reuse my Betty Draper costume from Halloween 2010, which worked even better now that I actually have Betty Draper length hair ๐Ÿ˜‰ (in 2010 my hair was halfway down my back!)

photo 4

The highlight of the weekend by far was dodgeball last night – it was playoff night and my team won! It was my first undefeated season ever, and my first championship in 2 and a half years of playing Xoso sports. It made the victory even sweeter considering that everyone on my team is a longtime (Xoso) friend of mine. It’s crazy how many friendships/romances/memories have been formed through that league!

On the menu this week is present wrapping for charity, Christmas light viewing, more holiday parties, and hopefully lots of cookies ๐Ÿ˜‰ Gotta love this time of year!

Have you been to any themed holiday parties yet this year?

What typically Christmasy things do you look forward to this month?

Thanksgiving Weekend in Photos

Hello and I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend! Mine was really great, filled with friends, family & remembering how much I have to be thankful for…

  • My family’s health! {This time last year, we were mourning the loss of my grandpa…it’s nice to all be in good health this year}
  • Having the freedom to explore my dreams and establish my nascent young professional career {bahaha so cheesy, but true}
  • A great apartment and roommate!
  • All the friends I’ve made this year through dodgeball & Young Dems
  • A body {& spirit} resilient enough to come back from 2 broken bones to run 2 10Ks this year!

Alright that’s all the sappy stuff I’ll get into for now ๐Ÿ˜› Et voila, Thursday through Sunday:

20131202-134200.jpg

Thanksgiving started out with the Run to Feed the Hungry 10k Run and 5K Run/Walk, a Sacramento tradition that benefits the Sacramento Food Bank that brought out 30,000+ Sacramentans this year! It was such an incredible experience, definitely my preferred race to date. The race was packed, which was great for energy/morale. East Sac residents also camped out on their lawns to cheer us on- some passed out water, others played live music, and I even spotted a few mimosa stations!!

I improved upon my old 10K time (1:02:27) by a whopping 6 and a half minutes. I don’t even know what happened – I pretty much sprinted my last 1.2 miles…my dad even got a picture of me grinning like an idiot when I spotted him in the homestretch:

20131202-141552.jpg

Who smiles like that after running 6 miles?!

20131202-134149.jpg

After that awesome experience, I was ready to EAT. We fed 13 people total, since most of my dad’s Bay Area family made the trek to my parents house for his 60th birthday! We had an awesome spread- my contribution this year was cranberry-pomegranate sauce and maple chipotle sweet potatoes. Both recipes were from Women’s Health and were both deelish!

20131202-134207.jpg

On Friday, I headed over to the mall to do some shopping since I knew I’d need some interview clothes this week. I did some damage, getting a blazer, interview dress, hooded exercise tee, blouse, crop top, boots and a sweater…for I’m guessing about $200 total? Not too shabby!

20131202-134218.jpg

On Friday night, I reunited with an old friend over drinks and darts – unfortunately, my Cricket skills didn’t hold up after this picture was taken -_-

20131202-134224.jpg

On Saturday, we had a party for my dad’s 60th and a few other milestones – this November marks the 25th anniversary of him starting his business, and the 20th anniversary of our family moving to Sacramento! Our good friends who just started a food truck – SLIGHTLY SKEWED – catered…they are so good! Check them out on Facebook, Sacramentans!

20131202-134237.jpgAfter meeting up with more old friends for another drink on Saturday night after the party, I felt the need to punish myself on Sunday morning…. with a 7 mile run?! I kept it slow and steady the whole time, but it was still pretty rough, ending in a blood blister. Maybe this means it’s time for new shoes??

Lots of fun stuff on the horizon for me this week, including a new {temporary} job and interviews! Send all your good vibes my way!

Did you do a Thanksgiving Day run?

Black Friday – Yay or Nay? I don’t usually partake, but I caved this year…

Weekend in Photos

Hello everyone and happy Thanksgiving week!

Sorry for the brief hiatus…suffice it to say, there have been a lot of changes in my life lately. Luckily for me, said changes have actually resulted in a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders. Thanksgiving is coming at a perfect time for me – I feel very fortunate for everything I have right now. And I’ve only got good things coming! How’s that for vague? ๐Ÿ˜‰

We are hosting Thanksgiving this year because Thursday is my dad’s 60th birthday! My mom and I are cooking Thanksgiving dinner for {almost} my dad’s whole side of the family. That’s 14 people… BRING IT! I’m so excited to cook for and be with the family on Thursday! Not to mention I’m doing Run To Feed the Hungry (my second 10K) that morning. Am I overachieving? Maybe… ๐Ÿ˜‰

photo 1

On to the weekend! It started early for me when I went to Jamie’s Broadway Grille for lunch on Friday with Dave. I had never even heard of this neighborhood gem, which has been on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We had amaaaaazing French Onion Soup (See above, the photo doesn’t do it justice! It was SOOOO good!) and split a steak sandwich, which was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to check out a classic Sacramento spot!

Jamie's Broadway Grille on Urbanspoon

That evening, I watched Catching Fire with Yvette, Lisa & Kristin. No pictures of that…because we were so ENTHRALLED by the movie! It was seriously good! I read all three books and don’t remember being as satisfied and impressed with the first movie. I thought it was excellent all around. Definitely recommend!

photo 2

After the movie, we met up with friends to grab drinks. At one point Yvette and I were super awkward and decided to hide beneath our jackets/scarves to avoid being seen by people we knew. Haha. Is anyone else there really weird about running into people they know in public? No? Just me? Ok.

The night ended with the most glorious piece of pizza from Luigi’s. Just look at how adoringly I’m gazing at that thing. Glad Kristin insisted on pizza, because it soaked up the IPA’s I drank and allowed me to wake up the next morning feeling well enough to….

photo 3-2

…run 6 miles! Who am I?! I wanted to get one last really long run in before my 10K on Thursday, and that I did. I have been switching it up lately with my route and running to McKinley Park (~1.5 miles away) instead of Capitol Park (.5 miles away), which has forced me to increase my distance. I’m feeling great going into my 10K, and really hoping I can break 1:00:00!

I’m also only 9.8 miles away from my 40 mile running goal this month, so with a 4 mile run tomorrow and my race, I’ll achieve that goal!

photo 5

On Saturday night I stayed in and cuddled up with Love Actually and a cup of tea. It was a much needed relaxation night…just to be met with an epic brunch at Limelight on Sunday morning! You can’t beat $7 bottomless mimosas… Especially when you and your 4 friends are apparently thirsty enough to require the server to just leave the carafe at your table ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also, can I just point out that I finished that entire plate of food? Both habanero-chicken sausages, both eggs, both pieces of toast, and all the potatoes. I pretty much wiped it all clean with the toast. I must have still been hungry after my long run the morning before?! I felt like a bottomless pit!

photo 4

The weekend ended with a dodgeball tie (waaah!) and more TV on my iPad. Consider this picture this week’s installment of “reasons why you should be glad you’re not my friend on Snapchat”….

Enjoy your Monday!

What are you contributing to Thanksgiving dinner?

Are you running a Thanksgiving/Turkey Trot race?

Chicago Weekend in Photos

Happy Veteran’s Day everyone! For those of you who had the day off today, I hope you enjoyed your long weekend!

As anyone who follows me on twitter, Instagram, or Facebook knows, I traveled to Chicago this weekend to hang out with 4 other healthy living bloggers- Becky (who lives in Chicago), Carly, Sara & Alisha. You may remember me, Becky & Carly’s shenanigans in Napa & SF this summer. Sara was also with us at Blend Retreat, and Alisha we were all meeting for the first time- so glad she decided to take the leap of faith and drive herself from Ohio to see us- we all had a blast!

I went over to Carly’s place in Davis after dodgeball on Thursday night and we woke up bright and early on Friday morning. Her mom graciously drove us to SFO!

A 4 hour plane ride, Chicago commuter train, and taxi ride later, we finally made it!

20131111-171457.jpg

We started our evening getting ready with wine, bread and cheese in the hotel, then went to the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the Hancock Building- omg. SO cool! We got (insanely overpriced) Moscow Mules & Mojitos, but it was worth it for the amazing atmosphere and views.

Afterward, we went to “dinner” at RA Sushi (which was really just a few appetizers) and bar hopped in Old Town. Also, Alisha and I became tequila partners. As you can imagine, I was feeling less than stellar on Saturday morning ๐Ÿ˜‰

20131111-171505.jpg

Regardless, I rallied- we had plans to watch college football, eat, and drink! I surprised Alisha by wearing a Hawkeyes shirt (my grandparents went to Iowa so I’m an honorary Hawkeye!) and we enjoyed mimosas, coffee, beer, and both a breakfast AND lunch buffet at an Iowa bar in Wrigleyville.

20131111-170541.jpg

For the rest of the day, we walked the 3+ miles back toward Downtown Chicago and stopped along the way for amazing Nutella waffles and an obligatory Whole Foods trip! Definitely the biggest one I’ve ever been in!

After Whole Foods, Sara and I waited a good 20+ minutes in line to check out Sprinkles Cupcakes- SO worth it! I got a Salty Caramel and a Dark Chocolate, and somehow made them last 24 hours!

20131111-170550.jpg

That night we went out for another night on the town. Aren’t they all hotties? No wonder I was the only single lady of the group, all these ladies’ hubbies/BFs knew to snatch them up quickly!

20131111-171021.jpg

Sunday morning brunch was just what the doctor ordered! Becky suggested we go to the Little Goat, and when I said I had never had a Bloody Mary, she insisted I try one of theirs. I loved the combo of flavors, but being a tomato hater I’m not sure Bloody Mary’s are for me! Might have to stick to mimosas ๐Ÿ˜‰

20131111-170558.jpg

Sunday was all about sight seeing. We walked around Millennium Park and saw the Bean at Cloud Gate, walked around downtown, and really just took in the city.

We seriously lucked out with the weather- It stayed in the 40s-50s the whole weekend, but the sun kept us nice and warm! This morning right after Carly and my flight left, it started snowing. Dodged a bullet there ๐Ÿ˜‰

20131111-174533.jpg

And of course we couldn’t call it a Weekend in Chicago without some DEEP DISH! This was from Giordano’s and it was awesome. I may still prefer NY style pizza, but honestly the two are so different! It’s like comparing apples and oranges!

All in all it was an amazing weekend with great friends. I really loved Chicago & can’t wait to go back!

What was your last weekend trip?

Have you been to Chicago?

Halloween Weekend in Photos (Part 2)

Happy November! You guys, October seriously flew by, amiright? I feel like just yesterday it was my birthday. Time flies…

After continuing our Halloween celebrating all the way to Friday this weekend, I am officially Halloween-ed out. However, this year’s celebration was definitely one to remember!

20131104-104842.jpg

Friday night was our HANNAween party. My roomie Hanna’s bday is the day after Halloween, so the name seemed appropriate. We both took a half day and spent the whole afternoon prepping- our place looked AWESOME! It all came from Hanna’s brain too. I guess with a birthday around Halloween you get pretty into it!

In addition to the bloody bathroom, luminaries, and fog machine, we had Night of the Living Dead playing in the backyard on a projector screen (plus a fire pit and s’mores making station!). I was Piper Chapman (from Orange is the New Black) and Hanna made an adorable Lambchop!

I don’t have any pictures of Saturday, but it involved a 4 mile run, lots of clean up, and several MORE birthday parties in the evening. So many birthdays around this time of year!

On Sunday morning, brunch was necessary. Jeff and I went to Limelight and were stoked to see that a bunch of our friends from the night before had the exact same idea. Brunch party! I got the Green Eggs and Ham, which was a scramble with spinach, eggs, ham, bell peppers, ALL OF THE CHEESE, and pesto. It was amazing! Oh, and my brother showed up too! (on the left)

I capped off the weekend with a pre-dodgeball bike ride with Matt and Mikhail. We went along the American River bike trail all the way to Sac State. ย This might be my favorite new bike route in Sacramento, it was seriously beautiful! It was a perfect partly sunny ~65 degree day and a good way to sweat off the craziness of the weekend.

I’m hoping to settle down this week and avoid getting sick (lack of sleep + changing weather = surefire conditions for me to get a cold!) because Carly and I are leaving for Chicago on Friday morning!!! Wahoo! So excited to spend time with Blends this weekend.

Have a great week!

Have you ever hosted a Halloween party?

Any suggestions for our trip to Chicago?
